5 Steps to Find Happiness

Got a lot on your mind?
Most of us do. Whether it’s work issues or something at home, our minds can feel like the inside of a blender set to “liquefy”.

SunnyBalloonAnd the hard thing is, our thoughts aren’t always that positive. In fact, we worry a lot. We worry more than we should. It drags us down, saps our energy and impacts our ability to focus.

So after noticing this trait in myself, I went in search of a cure. And I found it.

Anyone can do this and it only takes 60 seconds. Here it goes:

Step 1: Notice when you are worrying. Do you tighten your jaw, clench your teeth or knit your forehead? Do you snap at someone or beat yourself up internally?

Step 2: Squeeze the muscles in your face, then relax them. Make a conscious effort to put your eyebrows in “neutral” or a flat position. Relax your forehead. Relax your tongue – it’s the biggest muscle in your face and where it goes the rest of your face follows. (Try it right now. Don’t drool.)

Step 3: Then think of three things you are grateful for. It can be as simple as water running out of the faucet when you turn the handle. It could be a great sandwich waiting for you in the refrigerator, or a full tank of gas in your car. Focus for 60 seconds on those good things.

Step 4: Every time you find yourself worrying, repeat this process. It may seem like an overly simplistic exercise, but it works. You will give your mind something more uplifting to feed on and the more you do it, the better your spirits will become.

Step 5: To reinforce this process, write those good things down. Keep adding to your list. And when someone asks, “How are you doing?” tell them, “Terrific! I’ve got a lot to be thankful for.”

They’ll wonder what your secret is.
